Support Domain Lead, Global Ops Team
Katie’s current role.
Starting on the salon floor
My career started in the salon and spa industry, where I worked in a range of roles, from hair stylist to front desk and eventually general salon manager. I later moved into a district manager role in the tanning industry, gaining broader operational experience along the way.
That experience helped me get a clearer sense of the kind of culture and values I wanted from where I work, and it eventually brought me back to the salon and spa industry I’m so passionate about.
Finding my way to Phorest
I first applied for a role on the US Support team before Phorest transitioned to remote working. At the time, the commute made the move impractical. Shortly afterwards, I received an offer from a competitor. Around the same time, though, Phorest reached back out to let me know about its new remote ways of working, and I didn’t hesitate.
Having used Phorest as a customer and attended a company roadshow in Philadelphia, I already had a good feel for the company. What stood out most was how genuine the team felt. The people I met were friendly, down-to-earth and authentic. Nothing felt polished or performative, and that authenticity really drew me in.

I have some simple advice for anyone joining the company: ask questions.
There’s no expectation that you’ll have all the answers, and colleagues genuinely want to help each other succeed. Trying to figure everything out on your own isn’t necessary, and it’s not really how things work here. For me, it’s the combination of that connection to the industry, a culture built around growth and authenticity, and a strong sense of shared values that has made Phorest more than just a workplace. It’s a place where I plan to stay.
Katie Eckenrode
Starting in support
I started my Phorest journey as an L1 Support Agent on the US team. Early on, I built a strong partnership with a teammate, sharing knowledge and learning from each other. I brought my deep salon and spa expertise, while learning more about hardware and technical systems from my teammate.
That collaborative approach became an important part of my growth at Phorest.
Growing my career
I have progressed my career during my time here. After two years as an L1 agent, I stepped into a Team Lead role. Two years later, I progressed again and am now the Support Domain Lead for the Global Ops Team.
I believe that my growth came from a combination of my industry experience, curiosity and willingness to put in the work. And Phorest’s genuine investment in employee development. If you’re willing to put in the effort, people will meet you there.
Colleagues here are happy to teach, mentor and share what they know, not just solve the problem for you, but show you how to solve it yourself.
What keeps me here
I describe myself as a “Phorest lifer”, and what keeps me here is the culture and how closely the company’s values align with my own.
I’m so invested in maintaining that culture that I’m also an active member of our Values Council, a group dedicated to making sure Phorest’s values reflect who we really are, not just who we aspire to be. The council helps shape and reinforce our mission, making sure our values stay visible, meaningful and part of how we work every day, rather than just becoming words on a wall.
I also strongly believe that Phorest is about more than selling software. It’s about building partnerships and making a meaningful contribution to the industry. I see that mindset in the way the company is led too, particularly in how accessible senior leaders are.
For me, the open and inclusive environment doesn’t feel performative; it’s simply part of how Phorest works.
